A start of a beautiful day.

An eagle.

A tyranosaur (cool!).

A bird-o-saur? Either way I don’t want to meet it in a dark alley.

Okay, I really don’t want to meet this in a dark alley either – a very large ice Tyranosaurus.

This made me laugh! Its a Gundam RX-78. Anime in ice!

I think this was titled man-hunter or something to that effect. Nice!

A dolphin and a mermaid.

Another mermaid.

Intricate.

People and ice!

A pegasus and a dragon in battle. Or playing.

A mammoth in the Ottawa Sun.

A strange bug-monster.

A (viking?) soldier standing guard.

I love this! Horns, teeth, wings, claws and a tail! What more could you ask for?

This looks really, really nice.

On the ice – we begin our journey down the canal.

Its us – all bundled up (the wind was a bit nippy).

Walking towards the Queensway (its the bridge ahead).

Me! I have a chin!

The cracks in the ice are at least 30-40cm.

People everywhere!

A rest stop.

Getting close to Lansdown park.

Another rest stop.

Coming up to the bend.

Just past the Bank Street bridge.

La-dee-da.

Bronson bringe, I think.

Looking behind us.

Out the window from brunch. The warm sun was great.

Dows Lake.

Mushy stuff. Don’t look.

The mass of snack stops at the beginning of Dows lake

The Dows lake pavillion is ahead!

A small fire pit for people to warm up at.

The Pavillion! We’ve made it. So, we turn around and head back. 7.8 kilometers down, 7.8 kilometers to go!

Heading back across Dows Lake.

More cracks..

Kites? Cool!

Denis looking… Like Denis.

Pokemon would be proud.

More people!

Looking back towards the Bank Street bridge and the setting sun.

The sky the north-east is getting dark.

My pretty wife!

We got off the Rideau Canal to stop at Peach Gardens for supper. I love won-ton soup!

Back on the canal, in the home strech!

Its Sunday night and I’m fairly sure that there aren’t that many people in the offices at the Department of National Defense. turn off the lights when you aren’t there people!

The Winterlude / Bal de Neige logo in ice in front of the Westin Hotel. These can be seen at places that are sponsors of Winterlude – at least thats what I think. A great way to spend the day – 15.6 KM of walking on a nice winter day. [Official Winterlude Site]

Lots of people on the Rideau Canal.

Confederation Park where the ice sculptures are.

More skaters!

Kool-Aid? In the winter? Free samples of a new active-drink were offered – flavoured blue-sugar-water, if you ask me.

Lots of little “Cafes” and other places to get food and really hot drinks.
