Vacation 2008 Edition!

Most of this was written as a series of emails to myself on my iPod Touch at the end of each day. Overall, we had a pretty good time, but we would have been happier longer. Next year.
August 17 and 18

Better late than never, right? Our annual vacation started a bit later than usual this year. We packed up most of the car the night before we left so we’d have time for an abbreviated brunch.
We set everything up in about four hours from when we got here, not bad at all – tomorrow’s weather may be “extreme” – see how we handle that. Boing is already settled into “camping mode”, though. Good to be back.
Last night lots of storms passed north west of us – three during the night, and at least that many during the day. One passed over us- lots of high cloud to cloud thunder, with decent amount of cold rain, wind and yes, *hail*. The weather forecast did warn of extreme weather, so we were prepared. My experimental new tarp system over our Eureka Tetragon tent held up well. Read Arthur C. Clarke’s (dead tree edition) of Songs of a Distant Earth during the rain. Great book.
While in hammock listening to the audiobook of Isaac Asimov’s Caves of Steel, I observed a large dragonfly moving up the sun-lit side of a tree, presumably looking for prey – a behaviour I have never seen before.
August 19th

Slept in until ten, and had blueberry and chocolate chip pancakes. Forecast is nice until Friday, but nights go down to ~5
