Attaching the electrodes of knowledge to the nipples of ignorance.

Yesterday, I had the chance to take a train ride from Ottawa to Montreal. The train is by far, my most favorite way to travel. I look forward to eventually taking the train across Canada – sea to sea, maybe even sea to sea to sea. It would probably take a month, but I can imagine just how cool it would be.

I was taking the train to Montreal so I could hook up with my sister and then we would head down to the family farm, where the big family reunion is taking place on Saturday. The train was quite full (much to my surprise). I ended sitting beside this woman and her 18 month old boy, Tristan, who was very inquisitive. Like Denis Leary said “children are like a bunch of drunken midgets” – so very, very true. Tracey dropped me off at the train station about an hour or so before the train – she had an appointment at 8:30, so that was fine by me. Sitting in the train station is very much part of the experience of taking the train for me – especially the Ottawa Station. I always find it very interesting to sit there and watch the people. The anticipation of a loved one arriving on the train from Montreal, the good-byes to another leaving for Toronto. The very best of humanity can be seen in a place like this.

Stepping out of the train station was an other matter entirely – my first breath of Montreal air smelled very much like rubbing my nose in an ashtray while inhaling. Gross.

Today I got to use a gas-powered whipper-snapper for the first time. After two hours of it, my hands were tingly-numb for fome time afterwards. Mental note: don’t get a gas powered whiper-snapper.

Its strange being so far away my wife – I feel somewhat off because of it. I look forward to seeing her tomorrow afternoon sometime.
